Lamenting that corruption has become the norm in day-to-day business affairs in Bangladesh, SME owners in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh said they have to bear the brunt of corruption when obtaining trade licenses, renewing licenses, and securing loans from banks. They elaborated that rampant corruption has thus become the most significant obstacle when doing business. The various types of corruption regularly faced also include having to pay bribes during customs clearance for import or export or transportation of goods. Revealing that they also face various forms of extortion, the SME owners demanded the formation of non-political anti-corruption platforms to eliminate all types of corruption.
